More Birds...

I got closer to the swans this morning. The dogs are getting better at sitting and staying while I take pictures, or they go hunt for siksiit or lemmings while I shoot. Nanook caught her first Siksik the other day while we were out on a walk. Matt freaked out but I just laughed and was kind of proud. I think Mika and her are finally starting to work together while they hunt. Mika usually runs ahead and scares out the animals and then Nanook goes for the grab. I made Nanook release it of course, and the little guy ran away and jumped back into his hole. It was pretty exciting!

The Birds are Back

I went out with the dogs yesterday and got some shots of the returning Canada Geese, Snow Geese and also the Sandhill Cranes. There is a short-eared Owl that I've been trying to shoot for the past week but I can't seem to get close enough. Here is what I have so far.

Dog Houses, Skiing, Hiking & Biking

The long weekend is over. We managed to build a couple dog houses, go for a 4 hour hike, do our last skijoring trip to Thompson Island, and bike to landing lake.
We spotted some snow geese,
sandhill cranes, gyrfalcons,
and lots of seagulls and siksiit!

Why didn't we get a Poodle?

On Friday I got a call to go into MUI High School to substitute. I only got out for a short walk with the dogs in the morning before the call because I was planning on taking them out later on in the day for a ski. When I came home for lunch I opened the door and could see the mess they had made. They decided to take it out on the Kleenex box I guess. It's been a while since they destroyed anything. Last time it was our alarm clock and stereo remote. The time before that it was a couple DVD's and the Christmas Lights. This morning I made sure to run them for 15km. Now they are sleeping like little angels.

At least we aren't the only ones with crazy huskies. Here's a site where people post their pictures of "Husky Damage".

Enjoy!

Runs in the Family

Here are some pictures of my Grandma Anne dog sledding back in the day. Maybe dog sledding is genetic?

Cindy's Dog Sledding Adventure

On Monday I competed in the Women's Dog Sled Race. It was lots of fun and the dogs did an excellent job! I think I made all the other women sick from my shouting because I was cheering on the dogs the entire race. I actually lost my voice by the end. After experiencing the rush and excitement of a race I think I really appreciate the quiet and relaxing times out on the land with the dogs! My goal is to get Mika and Nanook on the team for next year.

Snow Cross Races 2008

Today there was a big snow cross race in front of the snow fence. Matt and I went to watch a bit but I got cold so we went home. There are more shots in my recent folder...

Elders Dog Sled Race

Today 7 Elders got to race around Thompson Island with their dog teams. The temperatures are starting to warm up so the snow is getting sticky and the streets are bare. The siksiit are out and the dogs are in heaven.
